What is Extraterrestrial Intelligence?

By Shil1978

Extraterrestrial intelligence refers to intelligent life originating outside of Earth. Of course, as of this point, there is no evidence to support the presence of either intelligent life or just life outside of Earth. We all would like to believe though that there exists life and intelligent life out there somewhere. And it just isn't mere wishing. Scientifically, it remains a possibility too.

It would be highly inconceivable that we humans are the only living inhabitants (or intelligent inhabitants) of this vast universe. The number of planets and galaxies are mind boggling (just so many) and it would be hard for one to be arrogant and think that only Earth has intelligent life in this whole universe.

Dr. Frank Drake in fact came up with an equation that showed that multiple planets potentially exist, that could potentially have civilizations intelligent enough to communicate with Earth. So, there is a scientific basis for the search for extraterrestrial intelligences.

One of those organizations that searches for extraterrestrial intelligence is SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence). The way that SETI searches for extraterrestrial intelligence is by scanning the skies with radio telescopes to detect radio signals emanating from outer space. The presumption being that if there does exist intelligent life out there - they would (just as we) have developed the ability to communicate using radio waves. However, thus far nothing has been found extraterrestrial in origin; although, there was a lot of excitement over the "wow" signal that was picked up by one of the SETI researchers. However, unfortunately, that signal could never be verified again and hence the origin of that signal remains a mystery.

So, far SETI has not found anything to prove that extraterrestrial intelligences do exist. But, does every extraterrestrial civilization need the same methods of communication as we've developed. I mean we use radio waves to communicate, but do aliens need to use them as well. Could they have not developed some other forms of communication to communicate amongst themselves. It could be a possibility. So, I am not sure that SETI's way should be the only way; although, at this time - I guess that's our best bet to search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

As of now, we know of no other extraterrestrial intelligences. But, how wonderful would it be to find another species like us, residing in another planet far off from Earth. Wonderful - if they are not an aggressive species. Of course, if they are intent on space domination, it would not be too wonderful, would it? But, I do hope to learn in my lifetime that we are not alone. It would be the wildest "breaking news story" of all time.

We are NOT alone. My view is that "extraterrestrial" life/intelligence exists. Only, it should be more accurately identified as "extra-dimensional" life/intelligence. This, I believe is a reasonable explanation for all the unexplained, supernatural, spiritual occurences that are all around us.

Why there simply cannot be any intelligent extraterrestrial life in this cosmos, aside from here on our Earth

Given the fact that our universe is "one single cosmic organism" I would like to bring to your consideration the fact that since all living beings on earth come with "only" one head there also is only one head planet - our very own Earth.

If indeed there were two intelligent head planets in the cosmos, its consequence certainly would be that all these living beings on both planets would come with two heads respectively. Since that isn't the case and all beings on earth capable of living are "only" one-headed, this is to prove that there is also only one planet with intelligent beings.

I consider this statement to be a basic principle in the "living body" of the cosmos and am submitting it hereby to you for your expert evaluation.

With my kindest regards

I am not too sure I understand what you want to convey. I can agree with the suggestion that our planet might in fact be the only planet in the universe supporting advanced, intelligent life.

Life, in and of itself, may not be very rare to find, but intelligent life such as ours might be - who knows! It is a possibility.

Fact is we just don't know. One can argue that a lot of things needed to have happened, and in a particular order, for humans to have had the chance to evolve and grow into what we have now become. So, intelligent life may not be as common as we think it to be.

Best regards,

.... I do believe that you secretly may have the answer to that ....as you seem to be a cut above most ordinary hubbers here with an elite frame of mind - and yes - probable connections to much more intelligent life on other planets - lucky you - but lucky us too because we found you!!

Well, epi, I don't have the answers to so many things - which is what makes life interesting. The quest to know is so essential!! Thank you for your kind words, sure makes me feel 'elite.' Seriously, though, I am just ordinary!! Thanks for stopping by and commenting epi :)

I strongly believe in extraterrestrial life for the very same reasons stated above. But I think there is one more factor to consider in our search for such life: Conscious avoidance of contact. To start, our planet is very small and really insignificant. It would take a great deal of effort, and advanced technology for any intelligent life form to find us. But even if we where found, and significant enough to warrant attention, any advanced civilization would know it to be a disastrous idea to announce their presence. What would we do, for example, in the dark ages with technology more advanced and potentially deadly than Nuclear bombs? If an advanced civilization was presented to us here on Earth, there would be only a handful of possible outcomes. One, the Civilization takes over our own. No peaceful solution to this scenario could be found as we are not the most peaceful race, and we do not like our freedom taken from us. Or two, we obtain technology for which we are not yet socially ready. Even if the intelligent race did not reveal any technology, there is a great deal of insight to be had by simply seeing the technology. If you think about it, the only reason why we've survived this far as a race is we have been largely on our own. As for our search for life, we have a long ways to go before we can even begin to hope to make contact with an unsuspecting or unwilling neighbor.

NASA and others claim they are looking for 'intelligent' extraterrestrials. They need only look within our own Solar system where the entities have supernatural abilities. They can fly individually, they may raise or lower temperatures within their magnetic electrical resonance built into their physical system. They may project beams of light from any part of their body; head, hands, chest etc. They can build a biological craft by forming a circle of entities and joining their electrical resonance and fly it at supernatural speeds.

NASA will probably claim this does not ressemble intelligence, however, it may be proposed that they cannot raise or lower heat factors with their bodies. They cannot project light. They cannot build a biological craft which will fly at supersonic speeds.

Suggestedly, one must ask from which source intelligence derives. Certainly, not from the earth bound organization of NASA.

PS: If given a choice between NASA Intellect and Super Natural Powers, the Super Natural Powers are most inviting.

We might not be able to build biological aircraft that travel at supersonic speed, but NASA are already using mechanical aircraft that travel at hypersonic speed, just check their website.

i've written a new hub on this subject,, I'm going to do a new hub regarding the definition of "intelligence",,, I think humankind is arrogant and presumptive to think that we represent "intelligence" especially when we have no idea about how animals and birds migrate with pinpoint accuracy,, I think that, if anything, humans are handicapped by a lack of "native" intelligence, which is why we had to invent mathematics and mechanical devices to negotiate our environment...

Birds and bees can see invisible forces that humans can only see using things like ultra violet light.

Lundmusik, thank you for your comments. I look forward to reading your hub on the subject!!

Sparkster, I think the invisible forces you refer to is the Earth's magnetic field. There have been studies that have indicated that migrating birds use the Earth's magnetic field for navigation!!
